Frequently Asked Questions - BallotTrax

Learn more about the ballot tracking process.

BallotTrax is a secure software application that locates mail-in ballots, and sends a series of proactive alerts to voters telling them where their mail-in ballots are in the election process. By partnering with the US Postal Office & local election committees, voters can securely log into the BallotTrax site and accurately track their mail-in ballot status while signing up for alerts in case there is any discrepancy.

BallotTrax was founded in 2014 in Denver, Colorado.

Steve Olsen founded BallotTrax to revolutionize the notification process for mail-in ballots.  His mission is to ensure voters never miss an opportunity for their voice to be heard and to provide peace of mind for voters using mail-in ballots by implementing a secure, accurate, and proactive ballot tracking technology.

BallotTrax is a member of various organizations including:

  • America’s Cyber Defense Agency
  • National Council of Information Sharing & Analysis Centers (ISACS)
  • Information Technology–Information Sharing & Analysis Center

  1. Voters register for a mail-in ballot through the BallotTrax website, which is typically linked to the local election committee’s website.
  2. Once registered, voters who are eligible to receive mail-in ballots will be sent their ballots by the local election authorities.
  3. The tracking notification system begins once the ballot is printed and mailed to the voter. Voters will receive notifications informing them where their ballot is in real time.
  4. The personalized tracking dashboard is available at any time for voters to log into and access pertinent information regarding their mail-in ballot. The dashboard provides ballot location information, including time and date stamps, along with ballot notifications regarding when their ballot has been officially counted.
  5. In the case of any discrepancy, such as delay in delivery or discrepancy in tracking information, BallotTrax offers a customer support line Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Local election committees can also help verify ballot information for concerned voters.

BallotTrax award-winning software integrates with State & County election offices, print vendors, & the USPS to notify voters when their ballot has been printed, mailed to the voter, returned from a voter, received by the election office, and accepted or rejected for counting.

BallotTrax implements advanced end-to-end encryption and data security protocols to safeguard the ballot tracking process, ensuring the secure transmission of data between the voter and the election committees. BallotTrax is partnering with Will County and government agencies to provide a secure and reliable vote-by-mail tracking system. This collaboration ensures the accuracy and integrity of the voting by mail process.
